OAuth for Service-to-Service Setup Guide

Dynamics 365 Business Central has a set of standard APIs and custom APIs can be created for needs that do not fit the out of the box ones. Getting data in and out of Business Central has never been easier. Controlling access to this data is equally important and has never been easier for system admins. Setting up OAuth for those service-to-service connections is an important step for getting started using the Business Central APIs. Service-to-service authentication will enable API access and automation without direct control of an interactive user. This guide is for system admins that will need to setup the application permissions in Azure Active Directory and Business Central. We will walk you through the steps necessary for setting up a new client application in Azure Active Directory and generate a secret (password) for that client id. Then you will transition to the Business Central application to finish the needed setup in there. Finally, we will show you how to test the newly setup OAuth for validation everything is correctly setup.

Completing the Azure Active Directory and Business Central configuration detailed in this guide will provide the access needed to read/write data and use the business logic provided by the API. Integrating with Business Central has never been easier and more secure.
